Acatenango Volcano Overnight Hike

Acatenango Volcano Overnight Hike

Duration: 2 days / Difficulty: Challenging

Climbing Volcan de Acatenango is one of the top rated adventures for any traveler to Guatemala. Your day will start at 8am with a full breakfast. You'll leave Antigua and drive to the base of the volcano, where you'll start your hike around 10:30am. The hike itself is approximately 5 hours of uphill climbing, but you will have plenty of breaks and stop for lunch along the way. You'll reach basecamp (at approximately 2800m) around 4pm, and have a hot meal prepared for you by your guides around the campfire. You'll sleep in our comfy camper cots, under the warmest blankets and sleeping bags, in tents with a capacity for six people. We also provide pillows!

Your guides will wake you up before 4am for you to complete the last 200m of hiking to the summit, where you'll watch the sun rise over Guatemala while Fuego erupts in front of you. Upon return to basecamp, you'll have breakfast and begin your descent, which lasts approximately 2.5 hours. Your return to Antigua will be a welcome rest for sore legs, and you'll arrive back to your starting point around noon.
