Pacaya Volcano Half Day Excursion

Pacaya Volcano Half Day Excursion

Duration: 7 hours / Difficulty: Challenging

Pacaya Volcano is an excellent half day trip from Antigua. You may have the chance to get up close and personal with short lava flows from this active volcano. You can also potentially witness ash and steam eruptions while exploring the petrified lava flows on foot! Your local guide will provide marshmallows for you to roast in the heat vents between the lava rocks also.

You can leave at either 6 AM returning around 1 PM, or leave at 2 PM and return around 8 PM.

The trip includes round-trip shared shuttle from your accommodation in Antigua, and a local guide for the group. You will need to pay an extra Q50 National Park Entrance Fee when you arrive so please bring the correct cash.

If you are worried about the difficulty level of this 2-hour volcano climb, you can rent a horse at the bottom of the volcano which can make the distance much more comfortable, although you will have to walk a bit to get close to the lava. Horse prices can be negotiated at the site, but cost approximately Q300 round-trip.

We recommend you bring strong closed-toe shoes or tennis shoes as the rock is sharp. Bring a light sweater or jacket, sun and rain protection, water and a snack.

Please make sure you are ready and at the pick point 10 minutes before departure time.
